Action Research Project: Spelling Pedagogy and Practice

Additional Information

If developing spelling from Year 2 to Year 6 is part of your development plan for 2019/20, our consultant-led action research project will support you to achieve your aims.

Five three-hour sessions, focusing on identifying problems and actions, understanding current research, implementing actions and monitoring impact. It will be an invaluable opportunity to understand the current research on spelling pedagogy, share good practice and put ideas into action.

Each participating school will host a session, which will take place from 1.15pm – 4.15pm. The provisional dates for this are: 12/11/19, 10/12/19, 28/01/20, 03/03/20 and 30/06/20.

The first session will be a chance for schools to set their own targets for the project and to learn more about our spelling system and why it is so difficult.

The following sessions will be constructed around the participating schools’ requirements but each session will follow a similar format:

· Where are we now with spelling? Successes and 'what next?'

· Focus children update

· Spelling training based on schools’ needs

· Host school to share good practice

· Gap tasks set.

The project costs £500 per participating school and up to three members of staff from the school may participate in the project.
